The Red Elvises are an American cult band that performs funk rock, surf, rockabilly, reggae, folk rock, disco and traditional Russian styles of music.
Water Tower frontman Kenny Feinstein (right) has spent more than 15 years curating the band to what it is today. In 2005 he began performing and recording with the Water Tower Bucket Boys then modified members and style as Water Tower String Band. In 2018 he moved from his Portland Oregon roots to Los Angeles where he began the new iteration of the band as known simply as Water Tower. The core group is made up of three unlikely protégés who came from very different backgrounds to form one great sound of their own. Kenny brings solid string experience (banjo, mandolin, fiddle, guitar) in his favorite genres of Punk Rock, Old Time Music and Bluegrass. Soon after moving to Los Angeles he met Tommy Drinkard , an audio engineer , songwriter and front-man for his own rock band called Tommy Drinkard and the Remedy. Tommy who is already a great electric and acoustic guitar player began taking banjo lessons from Kenny and within a year he won first place intermediate banjo at the highly acclaimed Topanga Banjo and Fiddle Competition. Soon their songwriting collaboration began to take place and songs like "The River Song", "Fivers" and "AMPM" began to form their sound. Soon after that, they met Jesse Blue Eads a 19 year old jazz bassist who held his own on the banjo. They met while busking at the beach in Southern California. Unbeknownst to Kenny and Tommy at the time Jesse had just received a Jazz Award from Berklee School of Music. Amazing sounds were heard across the beach as the three met and traded styles and licks for hours including what would become the double banjo performance signature sound in songs like "Take me Back" . Together they share their love for Bluegrass, Old Time, Jam Grass while adding their individual infusion of reggae and rock (Tommy Drinkard), Jazz and prog-rock (Jesse Blue Eads) and Punk Rock & Old Time styles (Kenny Feinstein).
Things to note:
- This year there will still be no re-entry once you have paid and entered the show. We will be creating a smoking-area that will be accessible without having to leave the property.
- There is limited seating available, so if having a seat/table is important to you, we suggest arriving when the doors open at 5:30pm. We're going to try to have a few more chairs available this year, but they will still be limited.
- There will be no longer be a Locals Thursday series. We’re changing Thursdays to just mirror what we do on Tuesdays, with touring, regional, and national bands. We will still have plenty of local talent gracing our stage this year in support roles.
- We still don’t allow dogs! Dogs are great, but it would be dog madness if we let them attend shows. We’d also really prefer if you didn’t leave them unattended in your vehicle.
- Outside alcohol is NOT ALLOWED! Violators will be 86’d and publicly shamed.
- The parking lot does NOT belong to The Ruins. Yes, the actual owners of the parking lot expect you to pay to park. It’s usually about $4. It’s not our deal. We highly encourage people to walk, ride their bikes, or carpool. This year we will have a massively larger bike rack available as well.
- Tail-gating is not allowed in the Mt Hood Railroad parking lot. They are implementing a “no open containers” policy for their entire lot. Please respect their wishes and help us to maintain a positive relationship with our community and neighbors.
- We do rent out the Grotto Bar and/or the Indoor Bar during concerts, for birthdays, business receptions, etc. Email info@theruins.org for more information.
- Ruins Tuesdays are May through August. Ruins Thursdays are June through August. For other non-Tues/Thurs concerts, please see our website at www.theruins.org/music-calendar
- Each Tues/Thurs show all summer we’ve invited a “Featured Non-Profit” to be at the event, to fundraise and provide info.
- We will be bringing back the Makers' Market this year as well. The market will be every Tuesday, starting on 6/4, in the indoor venue.
