This will be an intimate evening featuring the songcraft and arrangements of Garett Brennan's three different collections released during COVID. Goldendale-based songwriter and cowboy, Forest VanTuyl will open the night.

Garett Brennan

The April 13th show will feature his long-time musical collaborators from nearly 20-years of playing in the Portland music scene: Jon Neufeld on guitars (Taylor Kingman, Anna Tivel, Jackstraw, Martha Scanlan, Black Prairie, Dolorean), Luke Price on fiddle (Tony Furtado, Love Dean, 4-time national fiddle champion) and Will Amend on upright bass.

In 2019, Brennan left a 6-year run with his psychedelic soul project, pigWar, to return to his folk/americana roots and record his 8th studio album, Year of Mornings, in collaboration with producer and guitarist Jon Neufeld at Type Foundry Music. As it did for many artists, COVID changed the touring and release schedules for everyone. In addition to pressing Year of Mornings to vinyl in early 2020 in support of the planned tour, they also pressed two digital releases from 2011 to vinyl, The Cookie Tapes, Vol 1 & 2 (a rare collection of GB's tunes recorded live to 2" tape with Grammy-nominated producer/engineer Cookie Marenco in San Francisco). Then in the summer of 2021, Brennan digitally released his first collection of material since tragically losing his younger brother in a freak ski accident in January of 2020 where they grew up in Alta, UT, Songs for Sean, Vol. 1. Since none of these collections have a proper "release party," this show will feature material from all three albums.

Brennan has lived in the Gorge off and on since 2008, mostly in an off-grid school bus where he writes all his material. Since moving here full-time in early 2021, he has quickly connected with a stellar group of Gorge-based musicians that play regularly with him at his monthly Solera residency in Parkdale and other jaunts in the area.

This will be a seated, indoor show.

Forrest VanTuyl

Forrest VanTuyl is a Western songwriter, poet, and working cowboy based in the Inland Northwest. His brand of western music is less about day to day cowboy life and more about what crosses your mind when you stop counting switchbacks on a trail or while you’re waiting for a heifer to calve. It’s the rhythms that come from what first sounded like silence at daybreak in the canyons. His work has been featured by the New York Times, the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering, and commissioned by the US Forest Service.
